A planning guide for aegyo-sal filler at RESUM in Gangnam: the 15-25 minute appointment, how the under-eye area looks during the first week, and why the amount is kept small.

Aegyo-sal is the small, soft band of fullness 1-2mm below the eye that becomes more visible when you smile. Aegyo-sal filler enhances it with the softest, low-G' type of cross-linked hyaluronic acid.
The filler is laid in fine threads in the skin layer above the muscle that circles the eye (orbicularis oculi), never inside the muscle. The doctor works from photographs of your smiling face, because the aim is fullness that appears with expression, not a fixed ridge.
Aegyo-sal filler takes 15-25 minutes after numbing cream. You can return to daily activities the same day, but the skin here is thin and bruises show easily, so a flexible schedule for the first 3-5 days is advised. If you have photographs or important meetings planned in Seoul, book the treatment with that in mind.
| Treatment time | 15-25 minutes |
|---|---|
| Anaesthesia | Topical anaesthesia (numbing cream) |
| Back to daily activities | Right after the treatment |
| How long it lasts | About 6-12 months |
More filler does not give more defined aegyo-sal. Overfilling produces puffy under-eyes or an uneven contour that bulges upward, and filler placed too close to the surface can show through as a bluish tint, known as the Tyndall effect. For that reason the amount stays within 0.3-0.6ml for both sides, and an addition is considered after 4 weeks. If your stay is shorter than 4 weeks, any addition would fall on a later visit.

You have little natural aegyo-sal, or it hardly shows in everyday life.
You want your eyes to look softer and more defined when you smile.
An earlier aegyo-sal filler left the area looking puffy or unnatural.
You want a subtle result that moves with your expressions, without surgery.
Bruising, swelling and tenderness can occur and usually ease within a few days. For the first 1-2 days swelling can make the aegyo-sal look larger than usual.
For 1 week, keep strong pressure off the area and stay out of saunas.
The line is visible straight after treatment and becomes stable at around 1 week. Judge the final contour after the swelling has gone.
Aegyo-sal filler is not performed during pregnancy or on areas with an active skin infection or severe inflammation.
Rarely reported problems are nodules, asymmetry, hypersensitivity and the Tyndall effect, which looks like a bluish shadow. A controlled depth, a conservative amount and a dissolving enzyme kept on hand are used to lower the risk.
Results vary with each person's constitution and condition, and a specialist consultation is required before treatment.
Yes, aegyo-sal filler takes 15-25 minutes and daily activities can resume the same day. Because under-eye skin is thin and bruising can be visible, keep the first 3-5 days flexible. The contour becomes stable at around 1 week.
Puffy under-eyes are mainly a result of overfilling or of injecting into the muscle, and both are avoided. The amount is limited to 0.3-0.6ml for both sides combined and the filler is placed in the dermal layer above the orbicularis oculi muscle. Swelling in the first 1-2 days can still make the area look larger for a while.
An addition is considered 4 weeks after the first session. RESUM Plastic Surgery Clinic starts with less and refines in stages, so travellers staying less than 4 weeks would have any addition on a later visit.
The Tyndall effect is a bluish show-through that can appear when filler sits too close to the skin surface. It has been reported in rare cases with aegyo-sal filler, which is one reason a soft, low-G' product and a small amount are used.
Dr. Jin-Young Kim decides the thickness, position and curve of the aegyo-sal after reviewing photographs of your smiling expression with you. The result lasts about 6-12 months.
